Thursday Tip ~ Filling in Large Centers

I am working on a pattern using a lot of eccentric circles. When using tweezers to even the coil and pull the center to the side, my center hole is often enlarged.

Only IF you want your centers to appear tighter and filled in, here is my tip:

Take a strip of paper about 1/2-inch (13mm) long and roll it tightly. The bigger the opening, use a longer strip of paper. I use a quilter's or shirt pin to get it tight, but you can use your quilling tool or fingers. There is no need to use glue as the coil will expand and stay put once you place it in the opening. The easiest way for me is to insert it with my tweezers.

This is the result.  You may like the look of having an open hole for your project. But if you ever need to fill in one or two in your project, try this technique.

Spring Magnets

These colorful, Spring-inspired magnets are made using 2" vinyl blinds. They are lightweight and easy to make. I have detailed the how-to info in a previous post here.

Instead of the printed picture, I think these would be cute with a bit of quilling on them! Magnets are fun to create, inexpensive, expressive and make great gifts.

I am happy to be a part of a group on LinkedIn titled CopyRights-Artists Rights. The group was created by artist and designer Phyllis Dobbs to actively help educate and spread awareness of the copyright laws. This Blog Hop , organized by artist designer Brenda Pinnick, is a group effort to educate and show how we can be inspired from others' original artwork.

Use your own imagination and craft a unique project. Your original piece of art then becomes protected under the law. In the United States, copyright protection automatically exists from the moment the work is created.

Copying someones artwork and misrepresenting that it is your own is wrong; it is against the law. It is an infringement-- a violation of the rights secured by a copyright.

Showing an Internet audience how to wrongfully copy original artwork is an unethical practice.

Be Inspired!

I am in love with Jonathan Adler, his life story and his store. I work hard for my money and I'm very particular where I spend it. He sells colors, I love colors. His quilted line of pottery is inspired by Chanel. I love Chanel, and so on and so on.

After noticing a trend of four colors in last Sunday's Target ad, I decided to take a look at the Jonathan Adler store to see what color groups he is selling. I clicked on NEW and fell for the colorful, geometric square paperweights AND round crystal coasters.  This is my Jonathan Adler inspired coaster project. It's not crystal and it's not round, but it's colorful and mine.

I already had the coasters from a book project. You can buy a Two Coaster Cross Stitch Kit at Hobby Lobby for around $10. The coasters are plastic. I used double-stick removable tape for the paper backing so they are interchangeable.

I am not a symmetrical designer but wanted to use the 9 buttons for a geometric look.
